ALTUS — Jackson County authorities said felony charges have been filed against two Altus police officers alleging they attempted to receive stolen property.
District Attorney John Wampler said officers Russell Hansel and Jose Arce were formally charged Thursday. Hansel faces one count each of knowingly receiving stolen property and conspiracy and two counts of attempted knowingly receiving stolen property. Arce faces one count each of conspiracy and attempted knowingly receiving stolen property.
Wampler said they allegedly purchased various items they believed had been stolen, including tools and handguns, from an Altus Police Department detective who was working undercover for the FBI in a public corruption investigation.
Wampler said both officers are in custody pending posting of bond. Online court records do not list attorneys for either man.
