11-14 overall, 6-6 C-USA

Catching up: Despite the absence of senior leader Taleya Mayberry, the Golden Hurricane pressured first-place SMU before falling 69-60 in Thursday's Conference USA contest at Dallas. Tulsa had advantages of 22-6 in bench points and a 41-35 rebounding edge, but there were ball-handling issues as the Hurricane committed 21 turnovers.

Player to watch: TU's Ashley Clark entered Thursday's game with a 4.5-point scoring average. She was shooting 34 percent overall from the field. Mayberry was sidelined because of concussion symptoms (the result of having taken a blow to the head during Tuesday's practice), so the Hurricane needed someone to fill the void offensively. Clark complied, scoring 20 points at SMU on 8-of-12 shooting.

Notes

SMU highlights: With Thursday's victory, league-leading SMU improved to 20-5 overall, 11-1 in C-USA. Keena Mays scored 29 points for the Mustangs. For Tulsa, Tiffani Cousinard totaled nine rebounds while reserve Jasmine Vasquez contributed 12 points.

For the Hurricane's 2 p.m. conference game at Tulane, Mayberry is expected to return to the starting lineup. The former Booker T. Washington High School star leads TU with an 18.4-point scoring average.
