Michael Smith: James Marsden joins 'Anchorman 2'

Oklahoma native James Marsden will be donning the polyester blazer and making sure no hair is out of place as a rival anchorman and nemesis to Ron Burgundy in the "Anchorman" sequel arriving in December.
Deadline Hollywood reported Thursday that Marsden will be joining the film, which followed the recent news (via Christina Applegate on Twitter) that Kristen Wiig also has been cast.
Marsden, a Putnam City High School graduate who also attended Oklahoma State University, hasn't had much to laugh about in the last couple of years. He has played the lead in dark films like "The Box" and a remake of Sam Peckinpah's "Straw Dogs."
He may still be best known to many for playing Scott Summers, or Cyclops, in the "X-Men" trilogy of movies.
But Marsden is arguably best known to many fans for his comedic roles in films including "Enchanted," "Hairspray," "Hop," "27 Dresses" and "Death at a Funeral."
The "Anchorman" sequel role sets Marsden up for a big year.
He is co-starring in the action-drama "2 Guns" with Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg, and in the high-profile picture "The Butler," which tells the story of a butler who served eight U.S. presidents. Marsden portrays John F. Kennedy.
"Anchorman: The Legend Continues" is scheduled for a Dec. 20 release. It reunites Will Ferrell with his "Action News Team" members played by Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and David Koechner.
