A 19-year-old woman is being held in connection with the shooting of her live-in boyfriend at an apartment complex Friday night in an area of Tulsa that has become notorious for violent crime.
Police arrested Ebony Hill on a complaint of shooting with intent to kill in an outdoor area at Prescott Woods, formerly known as Oxford Place Apartments, in the 1300 block of East 61st Street.
The victim was shot in the torso around 8:30 p.m. and was taken by ambulance to St. Francis Hospital in serious condition, Cpl. Chris Bauer said.
Hill called 911 to report the shooting and told police that they had been fighting, the police report said.
The victim reportedly told police that Hill shot him after he told her he was going to sleep with another girl, the report said.
Police recovered a firearm and ammunition from the couple’s apartment, the report said.
Records show there have been 17 homicides in the area surrounding 61st Street and Peoria Avenue in the past two years. Eight of those killings have occurred at one apartment complex, the Fairmont Terrace.
About 80 residents and community leaders met Tuesday evening to form the 61st and Peoria Quality of Life Task Force, which will seek to reduce the area’s high crime rate by improving health, housing and social services there.
