ANGLERS OF THE DAY

Hank Cherry

The Maiden, N.C., resident made the most in his debut in the Bassmaster Classic. Cherry, who has one B.A.S.S. Tournament win in seven appearances, sits in third place at 20-15.

Chris Lane

Lane, who won the Classic and $500,000 last year in Shreveport, La., didn't catch a fish on Grand Lake on opening day.

Tommy Biffle

The Wagoner native had a "disappointing" day by his standards with 12 pounds of fish. His Saturday strategy won't radically change because "it was radical (on Friday)" with a lot of movement.

Mike McClelland

The Bella Vista, Ark., has fished a lot at Grand Lake and it was proven by his ninth-place finish. McClelland pulled in 17-15.

Edwin Evers

Evers, who is from Talala, isn't allowing the local fans and media be a distraction. He was able to end day one in 10th place with a big of 16-13.

BIG BASS

Mark Pierce, from Clarksville, Tenn., didn't have a productive day quantity-wise on Friday, but the one fish he bagged was a keeper: the day's big bass at 7-4.
