Bassmaster Classic 2013 is bringing new products to Tulsa area, including a pickup truck that was introduced just a week ago by its manufacturer.
Toyota Motor Corp., the fishing tournament's biggest sponsor, has brought six vehicles - including its reshaped 2014 Tundra pickup - to the Bassmaster Classic Outdoor Expo, which runs through Sunday at the downtown Tulsa Convention Center.
The truck, which debuted last week at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show, will be heading to dealer showrooms later this year.
"People who tow boats are big truck consumers," said James Chevrier, a spokesman for Toyota. "We want to have a big presence here to get our vehicles out in front of people that buy trucks."
The company also is displaying a custom 2012 Tundra that was revamped by professional angler Britt Myers, who customized its interior and exterior with fishing enthusiasts in mind.
The Outdoor Expo is hosting hundreds of fishing and boating exhibitors, ranging from lure manufacturers to social networks for sportsmen.
Toyota has brought its own promotional crew to the event, saying it wants to give visitors a look at vehicles without any pressure from salesman or dealership representatives.
The 2014 Tundra has sharper edges and curves than its full-size pickup predecessors, including a slight spoiler in the back and other features that are designed to give it better aerodynamic handling, especially when towing trailers.
And like the boats at the expo, the Tundra features new technologies - including blind spot detection - that are a first for Toyota trucks, Chevrier said.
But the flashiest truck at the show is the 2-year-old Ultimate Fishing Tundra, custom-designed by Myers at a shop he owns. In addition to a custom paint job, it has a 10-inch suspension lift and a bank of LED lights on the top.
For the angler, the truck features a roll-out fishing gear box for storing reels and other equipment, and a mini-refrigerator that comes in handy during a day at the lake. Also inside, a yellow highlighted interior is trimmed with fish-bone accents.
Chevrier said the Ultimate Fishing Tundra has been turning a lot of heads at the expo site.
"You can turn on the lights on the top to get your gear ready, or even light up your boat," he said. "It will do just about anything you need."
