We definitely have cause to elect a new superintendent. It's daunting to think of what other educational reforms of Jeb Bush's that Superintendent of Public Instruction Janet Barresi plans to push despite going against knowledgeable sources who say she's not correct.
"Loose cannon" is a great description of Barresi as stated in a Tulsa World editorial for telling lies statewide about these authorities' results.
But also look at what she, the Republican state Legislature and Gov. Mary Fallin are trying to accomplish with our public school system - privatizing by cutting funds in order to strangle it by imposing impossible and unnecessary reforms.
Those who have children in overcrowded classes should be appalled and angry beyond belief at this condition.
Hopefully, Oklahomans will see the light and elect a new, competent superintendent with integrity who has depth in the educational field and willingness to work with our school superintendents, principals and teachers to make Oklahoma's school system one of the best in the nation.
But, also please take a look at your own state representatives. Ask that person to legislate not only funding necessary for our public schools to flourish, but for decent wages for our public school teachers, some who are living at the poverty level.
If they don't go along with these proposals, which most haven't, fire them and elect those who will. Please, let's do our homework for the next election for our children's sake.
