Pantone Color Institute has named emerald the 2013 color of the year.

Emerald is a lively, radiant and lush green. Most often associated with brilliant, precious gemstones, the perception of emerald is sophisticated and luxurious. Since antiquity, this luminous, magnificent hue has been the color of beauty and new life in many cultures and religions. It’s also the color of growth, renewal and prosperity — no other color conveys regeneration more than green. For centuries, many countries have chosen green to represent healing and unity.

“Green is the most abundant hue in nature — the human eye sees more green than any other color in the spectrum,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of Pantone. “As it has throughout history, multifaceted emerald continues to sparkle and fascinate. Symbolically, emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today’s complex world. This powerful and universally appealing tone translates easily to both fashion and home interiors.”

Sonneman: Lightweights
Flowing forms result from the strength and stretched material of sheet Spandex slipped around metal rings. The translucence of the lightweight material permits the radiance of the white-lighted interior shades to pass through the bright colors and snesual shapes of the sculptural Lightweights. It’s offered in nine upbeat shades and as floor lamps, hanging, drum and flared pendants, as well as sconces.

Hudson Valley Lighting: Hudson Falls
Drawing cues from classically-inspired turn-of-the-century lighting, this canopy-style pendant is defined by its deceptively familiar design. Hudson Falls is offered as a one- or three-light sconce, canopy and hanging pendant lamp and is available in a variety of finishes.

Troy Lighting: Fizz
Fizz is a trichotomy of modishness, playfulness and elegance. With a hardback shade, polished chrome stem finish and frosted white acrylic glassware available in various sizes and colors, each variation of the Fizz has a unique style of its own.
