Recent letters appearing here by Dr. Jim Maxey (Wake up," Jan. 31) and Dr. Stephen O. Glenn ("For fluoridation," Feb. 16) point to the fact that there exists two conflicting camps within the dental profession concerning the fluoridation of the public drinking water supply.
Maxey is in the anti camp. Glenn is in the pro camp along with almost every dentist you have or will go to, see socially, live near, meet, greet or pass on the street.
While I would trust either of these gentlemen with my dental care, I will never understand what has motivated Maxey's opposition to supervised fluoridation. While I often disagree with governmental policies and actions, the fluoridation of our water supply clearly aids poor people who might not afford commercial fluoride additives for their children's protection, and the uneducated or uninformed who might not recognize the need.
