Nathan Mitcham, a special needs senior at Owasso High School, was allowed to "dress out" for the Feb. 12 basketball game against Sand Springs. The Twitter network went crazy after Jaylen Lowe put out the word.

We went to the gym at 5 p.m. and nearly every seat was taken. We found seats on the visitors' side on the second row. During the game the tension seemed to build. Finally, in the last quarter, Nathan was put into the game the last three or four minutes. When he got into the groove, he eventually shot two three-pointers and a two-pointer. When he shot the last three-pointer, the sound in the Owasso gym was deafening. You just had to be there to really get the feel for what actually happened. (Fans) hoisted Nathan onto their shoulders and paraded around the floor. It was like seeing the movies, "Rudy," or "It's A Wonderful Life." There was more love in that gym than you can ever imagine.

Kudos to the Sand Springs basketball team and coaches. They helped make Nathan's night a memorable evening. I think everyone was into the moment, including the entire Sand Springs team - they were truly a class act. They allowed Nathan to have his moment in the sun and, boy, did he shine.

With all the media focus on bullying and school shootings, that night was a breath of fresh air.
