Letter to the Editor: Keep wrestling

I think it is worse than terrible, it's horrible, that the International Olympic Committee Executive Board, which incidentally does not have an American on the board, has dropped wrestling as an Olympic sport.

These young men have worked hard to be good enough to be in the Olympics and it is much more strenuous and time consuming by working out every day in and after school to be good enough to go to the Olympics.

I don't know about anyone else but I would rather watch a wrestling match than a pingpong game.

My husband (before we were married) was in the 1948 Olympic games in London. He was a high jumper in track and field. He was All-American three years in a row but he worked out every day after school, both military school and the University of Kansas.

In winter he jumped under the stadium in the cold and damp and landed on cement, before the days of the pads, but nothing ever stopped him.

These young men pictured in the Tulsa World and others had the chance of going to the Olympics and that chance has been taken away from them.

If any sport is dropped it should be done right after the last Olympics, not half way to the next Olympics.

What a shame.
