Letter to the Editor: Horses deserve better

I am writing you about the horse slaughterhouse issue here in Oklahoma. I am totally against it. Why can't Oklahoma have some refuges for the old race horses to retire to and have a humane way to either euthanize them if they are too sick to go on or have places for the owners to retire them to? They should not start this, because people will be trying to take healthy horses to slaughter.
It is awful that our legislators want to approve this. We all need to rise up about this issue here in Oklahoma. Most of Oklahomans are animal lovers. Our horses devoted their lives to racing for their owners and they deserve more than slaughter.
