14-12 overall, 11-5 Southland

Catching up: Oral Roberts is in first place in the Southland Conference no longer. The Golden Eagles were beaten 76-71 Thursday at McNeese State.

Sam Houston State and Lamar won home games Thursday and moved into a first-place tie. ORU is one-half game behind the co-leaders and will play Saturday at Lamar.

The top two teams in the league standings earn byes into the semifinal round of the Southland Tournament.

Player to watch: Kevi Luper. The senior guard from Adair has won Southland Conference player of the week honors each of the last two weeks. She scored 24 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked a career-high four shots Thursday against McNeese State.

Notes

Kryptonite: ORU is a first-year member of the Southland Conference. With the exception of McNeese State, the Golden Eagles beat every Southland opponent at least once this season. McNeese State, which has represented the Southland in the last two NCAA Tournaments, swept two regular season games from ORU.

Senior memories: ORU beat Central Arkansas in a senior night game last week. Afterward, Luper - seated at a press conference alongside fellow seniors Jaci Bigham and Savanna Buck - was asked to reflect on her four years on campus.

Luper said she will remember her senior teammates the most because they are her best friends and the best support group she ever had.

"Everything we have done, all of our blood, sweat and tears on the court, have meant so much to me and us and we all feel so passionately about the sport of basketball and so passionately about our friendship off the court," she said.

Luper also was asked if she had any regrets. When she said "none at all," a teammate suggested she perhaps regrets coloring her hair brown earlier this season.

"Maybe the brown hair," Luper said. "But that's the only (regret)."
