OKC police officer is state Guard's newest brigadier general

An Oklahoma City police officer was promoted Friday to brigadier general in the Oklahoma Army National Guard.
Brig. Gen. Percy "Sonny" G. Hurtado started his Army career as a second lieutenant in 1983 with the Field Artillery.
He graduated from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, La., and received master's degrees from the U.S. Army War College and from Oklahoma City University.
His military career has included positions as the battalion commander of the 1st Battalion, 171st Field Artillery, Afghanistan regional security integration commander in Kabul and commander of the 45th Fires Brigade.
Hurtado will deploy to Afghanistan to serve as commander of police for the NATO training mission.
In his civilian career, Hurtado is a patrol supervisor and field training officer supervisor.
He has worked for the Oklahoma City Police Department for 20 years.
