West Virginia held a sevenpoint
lead midway through
the first half in Lawrence,
Kan., before No. 6 Kansas
found its rhythm and rolled
to a 91-65 victory.
“We’re not good enough to
get down 12 or 14 to a team as
good as they are and be able
to come back,” West Virginia
coach Bob Huggins said. “We
don’t have enough offensive
firepower.
On offense, the Mountaineers
ran into Jeff Withey
who had 10 rebounds and
nine blocks to go with his 14
points. On defense, things
weren’t much better as they
strained to contain Ben
McLemore who had a careerhigh
36 points and broke
Danny Manning’s Kansas
(25-4, 13-3 Big 12) freshman
scoring record.
Kansas shot 56.7 percent
from the field and 61.1 percent
from beyond the arc
while West Virginia shot just
32.8 percent for the game and
had 15 turnovers.
McLemore, a 6-foot-5 redshirt
freshman, went to the
bench with a little more than
5 minutes left after hitting
12 of 15 shots from the field,
including 5 of 6 from beyond
the 3-point arc. He had seven
rebounds and four assists.
No. 13 Kansas St. 64, Baylor 61:
In Waco, Texas, Rodney Mc-
Gruder hit a 3-pointer at the
buzzer and 13th-ranked Kansas
State (24-5, 13-3) pulled
out a 64-61 victory Saturday
night after a failed desperation
inbound pass gave the
Wildcats one more chance.
Pierre Jackson had 18
points and seven assists for
Baylor (17-12, 8-8).
Texas Tech 72, TCU 63: In Lubbock,
Texas, Jordan Tolbert
scored 22 points to help
Texas Tech snap a nine-game
losing streak with a win over
TCU.

points and 11 rebounds for
the Red Raiders (10-17, 3-13
Big 12).

with 18 points.
