Oklahoma State graduate Jim Shields is the recipient of the 2013 Gallagher Award, presented by Oklahoma State wrestling.

Shields was a starter for the Cowboys in 1971 and an assistant coach from 1988-91. Shields will receive the award prior to the Big 12 Championships on Friday in Stillwater.

In 1971, Shields claimed the Big Eight title at 177 pounds, and that same season, he moved to heavyweight for the NCAA Tournament, where he finished third and compiled a 19-4-2 record for the season. He was a part of three Oklahoma State NCAA title teams, in 1971 as an athlete and in 1989 and 1990 as an assistant coach.

After his time at OSU, Shields went on to coach high school wrestling in Tulsa, where he led East Central to a state title and Bishop Kelley to two state titles. He also spent time coaching in California and Kentucky, leading teams to three more state titles. Shields is an assistant wrestling coach at Jenks.
