SAND SPRINGS -- A Sand Springs man was arrested Thursday after his pit bull reportedly attacked a neighbor earlier this week, according to Tulsa County Sheriff’s Major Shannon Clark.

Gary Brashears, 53, was arrested at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday on an “animal at large” complaint as well as 11 outstanding warrants, according to Clark.

The sheriff’s department reported that Brashears fled the scene after his pit bull attacked a man on Tuesday night in the 800 block of Long Street. When the man was unable to free himself, he dragged himself and the dog to a nearby house for help where another neighbor fatally stabbed the dog multiple times, according to Clark.

Clark said deputies specializing in animal control investigations attempted to question Brashears about the attack in its aftermath and determined that Brashears had multiple outstanding warrants.

Deputies believe that is why Brashears fled the scene the night of the incident as emergency vehicles began to arrive, according to Clark.

Brashears had received a written notice after a previous “vicious” incident involving the dog, according to Clark.
