Since I live in southern Kansas, I seldom recognize the names in your Tulsa World obituary columns. Still, I faithfully turn to the "Our Lives" section where I slow my pace and look for the daily feature story about someone who has left us.
What a wonderful and thoughtful service your writers provide us as some firefighter, musician, former teacher, crossing guard, war hero or ordinary citizen becomes the focus of a talented pen. Without these stories, I would never have known them.
As an avid newspaper reader, I can avow that such stories, especially when written daily, are a rarity. As such, I can only hope that local Tulsa World readers appreciate what they have in your daily offerings.
I seriously doubt that thoughtfulness is taught in journalism school. Rather it is a caring attitude that resounds from a newspaper that has served our area for well over a century.
Editor's note: Tulsa World staffer Tim Stanley writes the "Our Lives" feature.
