Spring movie preview: 'To the Wonder' among upcoming releases

The Academy Awards are over, and it’s time for that traditional post-Oscar lull known as spring movies — which this year looks to have a couple of blockbusters in the field.
Of prime interest to northeastern Oklahoma residents may be the April 26 release of “To the Wonder,” the movie shot in Bartlesville in 2010 and starring Oscar winners Ben Affleck and Javier Bardem.
The following films, and dates, are subject to change.
Friday
‘The Incredible Burt Wonderstone’
Steve Carell is a magic man, and so is Jim Carrey, in this comedy about competing Las Vegas magicians in a battle to stay on top. Steve Buscemi co-stars in what looks to be wonderfully wacky stuff.
March 22
‘The Croods’
DreamWorks Animation goes prehistoric with a family that discovers the world around them when their cave home is destroyed. Nicolas Cage and Emma Stone provide voices, as do Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener and Cloris Leachman.
March 29
‘The Host’
“Twilight” novelist Stephenie Meyer takes forbidden fantasy love from vampires to aliens in this adaptation of her book. Saoirse Ronan (“Hanna”) stars in this science-fiction thriller.
April 12
‘The Place Beyond the Pines’
Ryan Gosling reunites with his “Blue Valentine” director for this intense crime drama about a motorcycle stunt rider who decides to rob a bank to support his family, and the consequences of his actions that leave him targeted by a local police officer (Bradley Cooper).
April 19
‘jOBS’
A biographical look at Steve Jobs, the college dropout who became a captain of industry and whose entrepreneurship led Apple to unimagined heights. It stars Ashton Kutcher as Jobs, so we all have to wonder how it will turn out.
April 26
‘To the Wonder’
Filmed mostly in Bartlesville in 2010, the romantic drama directed by Terrence Malick and starring Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams and Javier Bardem arrives for its Oklahoma premiere at Circle Cinema.
