Broken Arrow woman acquitted of husband's slaying

A woman was acquitted of first-degree manslaughter Thursday in connection with the fatal stabbing of her husband in Broken Arrow.
A Tulsa County jury found Elizabeth Marie Beltran not guilty of manslaughter in the death of Alexander Beltran, 32.
He was stabbed in the abdomen and chest at a residence in the 1100 block of North Hickory Court in Broken Arrow on July 14, police reported.
A kitchen knife was recovered from the scene, according to police.
Elizabeth Beltran was charged with stabbing her husband while in the heat of passion.
Defense attorney Jill Webb, who represented the defendant at the trial, said that "Alex Beltran's death was a tragedy for the entire Beltran family."
'We are so grateful that the jury recognized the truth - that Elizabeth acted in self-defense," Webb wrote in response to a Tulsa World request for comment.
Elizabeth Beltran was abused by her husband for years, and he was violent on the night he died, according to Webb. Elizabeth Beltran has suffered from battered spouse syndrome, a form of post-traumatic stress disorder, the lawyer said.
Beltran, 32, was free on bond while awaiting a resolution of her case.
Assistant District Attorney Stuart Ericson, who prosecuted the case, was not reached for comment after the trial.
