Rescue crews retrieved the body of a homeless man who reportedly died after falling into a hole Monday morning.
The Tulsa Fire Department was called to the 1300 block of North Peoria Avenue around 9:45 a.m.
Responders found a man, who apparently was homeless and had fallen into an open lift shaft behind an abandoned warehouse, said Capt. Steve Odom.
The man, whose body was partially submerged in water retained in the 10 to 12-foot hole, died at the scene, Odom said.
A witnessed called 911 after seeing the man fall into the shaft that is normally used to aid the passage of an elevator between floors.
Police said they were not immediately able to tell whether there had been any foul play. The man’s cause of death will be determined by the state Medical Examiner’s Office, police said.
