Suns Sign Tisdale To One-Year Deal

PHOENIX (AP) - Wayman Tisdale signed a one-year contract
Friday with the Phoenix Suns, who also received league approval
of Danny Manning's one-year, $1 million contract signed
last week.
An $850,000 salary slot for Tisdale, an unrestricted free
agent, was cleared Thursday when the Suns waived veteran
forward Jerrod Mustaf.
Tisdale, a nine-year veteran forward who spent the last
5 1/2 seasons with the Sacramento Kings, has been taking part
in informal workouts with some Suns players since Tuesday
at America West Arena.
"Wayman made it very clear that this is where he wanted
to play after nine losing seasons and having played in just
four playoff games in his career," said Suns president
Jerry Colangelo. "I think the city and the franchise made
his decision an easy one."
"It's not a lot of fun losing," said Tisdale, who spent
his first 3 1/2 NBA seasons with the Indiana Pacers. "I want
to experience winning. If you get a chance in life to play
for a great franchise, you can't pass it up."
The 6-foot-9, 260-pound Tisdale has averaged 17 points and
6.9 rebounds in 659 career NBA games.
Manning, another unrestricted free agent, signed a contract
with the Suns on Sept. 8. He made $3.5 million last year,
ending the season with the Atlanta Hawks after being traded
from the Los Angeles Clippers.
Manning said he was willing to sign for whatever the Suns
could offer under the NBA's salary cap. The league had until
Sunday to validate the contract.
Meanwhile, the Suns face a Wednesday deadline to match a
four-year, $10 million offer sheet the Detroit Pistons have
given center Oliver Miller, who has been plagued by weight
problems.
Colangelo gave no indication Friday which way his team was
leaning in the Miller matter.
