Tell us what you think!
- 9/9/2008 11:30:51 AM, teresa, sperry
i am just wondering why sperry does not get shown or talk about on t.v.we have good system here and very good players to.
- 9/10/2008 9:18:21 AM, Balla,
I think that Sequoyah will win 28-7 b/c they are really good this year
- 9/10/2008 5:38:42 PM, James, BA
teresa- its cuz if u took ur "good players" and put them in union, jenks, and these days even ba- they'd sadly just be another player
- 9/13/2008 12:21:16 AM, carlos, sperry
I am a sperry football player n I think we beat their butt! Its been 18 years since we beat them n we finally got it!!
- 9/13/2008 8:54:24 AM, piratefan,
Great Job Pirates!!! By the way 'James', the only problem our team has is that there is not much creativity in the coaching dept. We have some very talented boys that play 2 and sometimes 3 sports. That doesn't happen a lot in the bigger school systems. We have 2 running backs that are just about the best that we have had in several years and our quarterback is very creative. We did beat the 11 boys on Henryetta's field last week but it was hard to beat the ref's.
- 9/13/2008 9:02:29 AM, Final Score,
Sperry 24 Sequoyah 21
GO PIRATES !!!!!!!!!!!
- 9/13/2008 9:59:49 AM, piratefan,
Didn't mean to not mention the great job that our offensive line has done these past 2 weeks for the running back's and quarterback to do their job as well as the powerhouse of a defensive that these boys have shown thus far. PIRATES, we are proud of you.
- 9/13/2008 10:20:57 AM, James, BA
well i will say good win- i definitely looked for the score of ur game to make sure ur players got things done, very nice!
- 9/13/2008 3:54:23 PM, Terry 'Class of 71, Owasso
Believe it or not, it the 60's and early '70s , Sperry beat Jenks and Union just about every year. Then they outgrew us.
- 9/18/2008 4:27:04 PM, piratefan,
Pirate football is getting exciting. I haven't been this excited about going to the Friday night games in a long time. Coach is going against how he usually coaches in playing 2 rb's approximatly the same amount of time. We had 2 great rb's year before last and we all know who got the ball all the time. (he ran over 2000 yards for the season) The other team knew who to shut down and they did. Hope coach keeps playing the rb's the way he has, keeps the opposing defense quessing.
- 9/20/2008 12:27:10 PM, Final Score,
PIRATES 21
Beggs 7
Pirates get it done once again !!!!!
- 9/22/2008 1:45:27 PM, Guy Stapleton, Sperry
Lets be fair in this weeks player of the week you nominated a young man from B.A. because he rushed for 153 yards and 2 TD's on 25 carries for a 6.2 average. Sean Stapleton of Sperry rushed for 198 yards and 1 TD on 14 carries for a 14.1 yard average. I would just like to remind the writers at the World that there are alot of talented kid that dont get the recognition just because thet dont play at Union, Jenks or B.A.
- 9/22/2008 11:11:07 PM, James, BA
Guy are you kidding me?? noah is a home school team and they got a kid on there, its not just about stats its also about the level of competition- if it was all about the stats we'd have independent winners pretty much Every week-
- 9/23/2008 10:15:09 AM, azzkicker, Jenks
"Lets be fair in this weeks player of the week you nominated a young man from B.A. because he rushed for 153 yards and 2 TD's on 25 carries for a 6.2 average. Sean Stapleton of Sperry rushed for 198 yards and 1 TD on 14 carries for a 14.1 yard average" LOL uh huh and who did Sperry play?? The BA kid played against Booker T Washington and he did that. He has also done that against Owasso and Union while your kid has made "great" numbers against Beggs? Henryetta? Wow those are some powerful opponents who have won how many state titles the past 5 years?? Oh yeah Zero. And how many of these studs get full rides to Division 1 schools? Yup zero again. Call us when you put big numbers against a real 2A/3A team like Cascia Hall or Clinton. Oh and if there is a kid at your place playin those teams why doesnt he have 200 yrds rushing? I'm not totally dissing your team i think you will make the playoffs but Lincoln Christian will own you.
- 9/23/2008 12:07:29 PM, pirate fan,
That's the kind of comment we would expect from a BA and Jenks fan. That is what makes it hard on our side of Tulsa to accept all the recognition that the south side gets. What you haven't seen is how this young man runs the ball. I am an Owasso graduate and a Sperry transplant and have watched many state playoff quality teams and this young man ranks right up there with them. Is it a sin to want to got to a small town school. No its not. I have lived both and I love Owasso but am glad my children are in Sperry School systems. By the way, I would imagine that Mr. Stapleton could go to a great college just by applying with his grade point average, but he is really something to watch and am sure if his name was out there he could go and play collegiate. Also, Henryetta was 12-1 last year and we would have beat them if not for some bad calls.
- 9/23/2008 6:45:36 PM, azzkicker, Jenks
LOL anything is hard on that side of town...the place smells and the houses are worthless. Im talking about Sperry and Turley not Owasso! Oh and i bet he is a great player but like most small towns he wont be big enough. Maybe at a place like Pittsburg State in kansas or Missouri Southern but not a major force. He could always go to OU and pick up the tee after they kick it off. Dont bring BA in this discussion they are OK but here at Jenks we have the tradition! Oh and i heard you guys say you beat us one time in the early 70's...wow so how many football titles have you won since then? We have 12! You losers will come down to earth when you go to Lincoln Christian hangs 50 on you!!
- 9/23/2008 8:04:15 PM, James, BA
man azzkicker i honestly cant wait till the jenks ba game, im not impressed with ba this year at all
- 9/23/2008 8:49:40 PM, piratefan2,
Wow. Sounds like ak from jenks has serious anger management problems. AK can keep that anger on the Jenks link to the Tulsa World. No one here was trashing Jenks or calling their houses run down, although there is an area in Jenks that is just that. Who cares if you think that your Jenks players may get a scholarship to a D-1 college. Big Deal. Our kids can go anywhere they want and not have to rely on sports. Sperry is a baseball town, I think Jenks knows that all too well, seeing that we regularly thumb on them in summer Diamond league. Please keep your hateful, biased comments off of the Sperry link and we won't come on your link and trash you. We have too much class which is something you don't have.
- 9/23/2008 11:08:31 PM, James, BA
that last post wasnt me- it should read- "man azzkicker i honestly cant wait till the jenks ba game, im not impressed with jenks this year at all"
- 9/23/2008 11:43:48 PM, azzkicker,
We have too much class which is something you don't have." LOL sure you do in a run down sad town like yours??? I mean is there anything besides a smoke shop, muffler shop and gas station along highway 11?? Nope I would take our home values and National Known school district that has over 100 state titles in ALL sports not just one like you. Also something you dont have is National Merit Scholars like we have year in and year out. See at Jenks we like to get our kids ready for life not ready to change oil at a local wal mart!! At our school we teach the students to decide between colleges to help accelerate their lives instead of your kids who have to choose between working at Arbys in skiatook or Bueno in Owasso!!! Losers
- 9/24/2008 11:35:42 AM, piratefan2,
ak, I knew you didn't know what you were talking about. There is no Arby's in Skiatook. What a joke. Our students are more than ready for college. We have several State Accademic Champion Teams as well as State Accademic Individuals. I have 3 children that graduated as National Merit Scholars. you have no idea what your talking about. You obviously haven't been to our area in a long time. The houses all around the lake are Sperry district. We have a lot of ranches that have "mini" mansions that would put your houses to shame.
This blog is not about your problems w/ Sperry. It is about a great team that is playing their heart out. We have some great talent no matter what house they live in. Keep your opinions off our blog and put them on Jenks. Or were you blocked from them as there aren't any there w/ your name. Get some class and grow up.
James, good luck on the BA game.

thanks piratefan2- same to Sperry,
- 9/25/2008 5:18:20 PM, Sperry Fan, Sperry
WOW- so much Jenks talk..well let me tell you- some of our athletes are so outstanding this year that I know for a fact that the big schools have looked at them and wished they would move and join the big teams without a "recruiting violation." But guess what our children decided to stay here- small town values overrode 6A/5A attitude. And yes, they may get skipped by a D-1 school offer- that is sad but overall they usually turn out to be better balance people. Just watch our foot ball team rise and our track teams set off some fireworks! And, by the way most of them have a very high GPA and high ACT scores, working, and do co-occuring.
- 9/26/2008 11:18:19 PM, Final Score,
Sperry.......47
Chelsea...... 7
Good Job Pirates !!!!!
- 9/26/2008 11:21:34 PM, piratefan2,
James, you were close on the score prediction. The Pirates starters didn't play more than 3 minutes in the 2nd half. Every player got to play in the game. It was a good job on the coaches part also (and I'm no fan of the coach). Still proud to say I'm a Pirate Fan.
- 9/27/2008 8:54:02 AM, John Stapleton, Tulsa
Sperry played great last night. Sean Stapleton ran for 138 yards on 7 carries He had Touchdowns runs of 1, 50 & 68 yds. He also scored a touchdown on a 45yd interception return. The kid is a ballplayer and for all who say he is not I have a question. Have you ever seen he play?
- 9/27/2008 4:30:05 PM, Guy Stapleton,
Hey azzkicker From Jenks you say you have class, well I have to disagree with that. When I wrote my comment I never degraded your town or players. I was just stating that there are alot of good player in the Tulsa area and they should be looked at. Now as far as Sperry not playing anyone we just beat last years 3-A champions, Claremore Sequoyah. We also gave Henryetta more then they wanted. So PULL YOUR HEAD OUT!!
- 9/28/2008 10:04:20 AM, piratefan,
The impressive part of Stapleton's stats are that he didn't play in the 2nd half. He played to open the 2nd half but after the first few downs, the starters got to watch the game and everyone got to play. It is something to watch Stapleton play but we also have Jones that can run with the ball and is also a threat to the opposing defense. The offensive line is playing tough and the defense has been a force to reckin with. After a pass interference penalty, Chelsea had the ball at 2nd and goal & they still did not score on the defense. Pirates are playing great ball and it is fun to watch. Go Pirates....
