OSU basketball coach Travis Ford said injuries have depleted his team's depth.

Junior guard Nick Sidorakis sustained a patellar tendon (it's the tendon that connects the kneecap to the shin) injury during a Sunday scrimmage and more will be known about his status after an MRI exam. Sidorakis hopes he is out no longer than a week.

Sophomore center Teeng Akol has a broken wrist. Ford indicated Akol was injured when he got hacked during a layup attempt.

Ford said Akol had a "dominating practice" before getting hurt and was the first big man off the bench. Ford said Sidorakis is the team's sixth man and had been playing alongside starters in practices.

"Before these two guys got hurt, I was very solid with nine guys," Ford said. "If you have those two out, I am solid with maybe seven."

Ford said junior forward Marshall Moses was performing like one of the 10 or 12 best players in the Big 12 before suffering a wrist injury. Moses is back at practice, but isn't back in a groove yet.

Triple option: Who will be the point guard? If the Cowboys had to play a game now, it would be sophomore Keiton Page. The other point guard candidates (Ray Penn and Fred Gulley) are freshmen.

"You are going to have to prove to me that, hey, you deserve it before I start a freshman out there," Ford said. "I want one of them to step up and take it because I would much rather Keiton start at (shooting guard). We are better with him there."

Tough mom: Before practices
began, Penn heard stories that Ford is the kind of coach who can "break you." Penn's mother, Gina, prepared him for tough love.

"There is nobody like that woman," Penn said. "She can say some things to you that will make you feel like I wish I was never born."

Penn said his mom is a nice lady. "But she demands her respect and she's going to make sure she gets it by any means, no matter who you are."

Is her son — who had to fight for basketball respect because he was small — the same way?

"You can test me if you want to," the 5-foot-9 Penn said. "There's no punk in me."

That sucks. Not that they are hurt, but the fact that both of them are still in the top 8 players.

This is the season that Sidorakis needs to step up and show everyone his skills. This kid was a national recruited player and has a lot of potential but seems to be gun shy and lacking some confidence.

Doesn't Ok State institute sports psychology amongst its teams?
