Robinson is nearing another record

When Zac Robinson became Oklahoma State's starting quarterback in 2007, he was considered an exceptional ball-carrier and an adequate passer.

But as his career progressed, he developed into a prolific passer. Already the holder of school records for career total offense and single-season total offense, Robinson is on the brink of breaking another significant record — Mike Gundy's mark for career passing yards.

When the 18th-ranked, Gundy-coached Cowboys play at Iowa State on Saturday, Robinson needs 75 passing yards to erase the Gundy record.

In 42 starts in 1986-89, Gundy passed for a Big Eight- and OSU-record total of 7,997 yards. Robinson, making his 33rd career start against the Cyclones, stands at 7,923.

"(Passing yardage) can define a quarterback's success," Robinson said. "I thought the total-offense record was cool, but passing yards — if you're a quarterback and you're going after a record, I think that's what you want."

Robinson also has broken Gundy records for single-game passing yards (430 against Texas in 2007) and single-game passing accuracy (85.2 percent against Baylor last month).

"I hope (Robinson) breaks all of them, and I hope the next (Cowboy quarterback) breaks his," Gundy said. "The mark that you leave as a competitor and a person is more important than what you leave on paper. That's not to take away from what he has done for us. He has been tremendous."

In last week's loss to Texas, Robinson endured a four-interception setback.
Two interceptions were returned for touchdowns. He had never before been intercepted more than twice in any game, and that had happened only four times.

"(The Longhorns) were an extremely fast defense," said Robinson, who this season has completed 64 percent of his passes and leads the Big 12 in passing efficiency. "There's really not a weak point in their defense at all. You've got to play mistake-free and be perfect, and obviously, we were far from that."

Robinson may have the opportunity for big statistics at Iowa State. In the Big 12, the Cyclones are 10th in pass defense and 11th in total defense.

"Honestly, we just forget about (the Texas game) and move on. That's what we've been able to do since I've been here," Robinson said. "(Following a loss), we bounce back the next week and play well. We want to have a good week of practice and prepare for a hungry Iowa State team."

I hope they beat Iowa State as well. They should be a pretty easy one to over come. I would worry about that last game of the season. Best of luck to you breaking the record!

Zac is a fine young man, from a great family. Good luck in breaking Gundy's record. Should happen quite easily against Iowa State.
