Oklahoma State was among the most whistle-prone teams in college basketball last season, ranking 315 out of 330 schools eligible for NCAA Division I statistics.

OSU was called for so many fouls in the early going of a Wednesday game against Southern University that the Jaguars were able to score exactly half of their 30 first-half points at the free throw line.

Coach Travis Ford said his players didn't adjust very well to the way the game was being called.

But, after being whistled for three fouls in the first 39 seconds after halftime, the Cowboys committed only six fouls the rest of the way.

James Anderson said Ford talks to players about sliding their feet on defense instead of fouling.

"We can't just blame it on the refs," Anderson said. "They call their calls and we have just got to play through it. That's something that happens some nights. We've got to play and not worry about the calls."

Rising star: Anderson scored his most points ever (30) in a home game, surpassing the 29 he scored against Prairie View A&M in his college debut. Anderson's fifth career game of 30 or more points helped him move past John Lucas and Richard Dumas on OSU's career scoring list.

Anderson is the 27th-leading scorer in school history and needs one more point to catch 26th-place Chianti Roberts.

Waiting room: OSU freshman forward Roger Franklin, who lost a tooth in a season opener Saturday, was scheduled for a root canal Wednesday morning, but the procedure was postponed. Franklin produced two points and three rebounds in nine minutes against Southern.

Streaking: OSU has won its last 18 nonconference home games. One more victory will match the fourth-longest homecourt win streak against nonconference opposition in school history.

Playing keepaway: OSU's eight turnovers against Southern were the fewest by the Cowboys since they had only five in a Big 12 Tournament victory over Iowa State last season.

Rare meeting: OSU played Southern for only the second time. The only previous meeting came almost exactly three years ago (Nov. 21, 2006). Obi Muonelo is the only Cowboy to play in both games. He scored 10 points and snared three rebounds in the 2006 game.
