The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports that Gunter Brewer, Oklahoma State's co-offensive coordinator, "remains interested but hasn't interviewed" for the head-coaching position at the University of Memphis.

The Tiger position became vacant when Tommy West was fired two weeks ago. The candidates list reportedly also includes LSU assistant head coach Larry Porter, Tennessee assistant Eddie Gran, Washington Redskins defensive assistant Jerry Gray, Middle Tennessee coach Rick Stockstill and North Alabama coach Terry Bowden.

Also considered a candidate is Hugh Freeze, the head coach at Lambuth University, an NAIA school in Jackson, Tenn.

The Commercial Appeal labels Porter, a former Memphis running back, as "the front-runner" for the Tigers' top job. For three seasons, Porter was Oklahoma State's running backs coach. Porter moved to LSU with Les Miles in 2005.

In January, Brewer interviewed for the offensive coordinator position at Minnesota.

Looking ahead: During a Friday media teleconference, OSU coach Mike Gundy was asked about the mental and physical state of his team. Next week, the 12th-ranked Cowboys (9-2 overall, 6-1 Big 12) close the regular season at Oklahoma (6-5, 4-3). On Saturday, the Sooners were beaten 41-13 at Texas Tech. Last week, the Cowboys defeated the Red Raiders 24-17.

The Cowboys have not defeated the Sooners since 2002.

"We feel very good about our football team," Gundy said. "We have been able to win some football games in difficult situations. I was really happy with the team and the seniors (following the 31-28 victory over Colorado).

"We'll take a couple of days off, come back to work and start to prepare for the next game. There are a lot of emotions at stake with (the Bedlam game), so it's a lot of fun for everybody. Our players are looking forward to playing two more games."
