OSU may have shot at Fiesta
Colorado's Jalil Brown nearly picks off a Alex Cate throw to Justin Blackmon at Boone Pickens Stadium, Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009. STEPHEN HOLMAN / Tulsa World

If Oklahoma State prevails in this week's Bedlam game at Oklahoma, and if Texas remains undefeated with a victory over Nebraska in the Big 12 championship game, the Cowboys could be rewarded with their first appearance in a Bowl Championship Series game.
On Sunday, OSU athletic director Mike Holder would not speculate on the Cowboys' bowl possibilities.
A team qualifies for BCS at-large consideration only if it has at least nine victories and is among the top 14 in the BCS Standings. The Cowboys are 9-2 and, for the second consecutive week, occupy the No. 12 position in the BCS Standings. Oklahoma State, ranked 11th in the Associated Press poll, closes the regular season against the Sooners on Saturday.
OSU's postseason possibilities include the Fiesta Bowl and Cotton Bowl (slotted for the No. 2 Big 12 team overall if it does get an at-large BCS berth). The Fiesta Bowl has a strong history of Big 12 participation. Since the Big 12's inaugural season in 1996, the conference has been represented in eight Fiesta Bowl games.
Texas plays at Texas A&M on Thursday and against Nebraska in the Dec. 5 Big 12 championship game. A Nebraska upset of Texas would result in the Huskers becoming the Big 12's automatic BCS qualifier, with the Longhorns seemingly assured of an at-large BCS berth. If Texas is 13-0, it is expected the Longhorns would face the Southeastern Conference champion — Florida or Alabama — in the BCS national championship game.
If OSU beats OU and Texas captures the Big 12 title, the Cowboys would be in line for a Fiesta Bowl berth.
The Fiesta Bowl is set for Jan. 4 in Glendale, Ariz. The Cotton Bowl is played on Jan. 2 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The Cowboys will make their seventh bowl appearance in eight seasons. For the first time in school history, OSU is making a fourth consecutive bowl appearance.

OSU is inline for the Fiesta only because Texas is undefeated. So win Bedlam or not, finishing as the Big XII no. 2 team is quite an accomplishment considering the best player in college football in training down in Tampa instead of getting ready for Bedlam.

The two best players in college football are in a cast and a sling. Bradford and Gresham were two of the best players. I think 1 of them won the heisman?

Conradulations OSU...You may actually finish 2nd in the Big 12 south. I can see why you are celebrating. 2nd place in the south division...WOW! Now go win a championship and get back to me. Ok...too hard...how about just winning the south...

The thing is "soonerman" being a seasoned OSU fan..we know how to loose and still stick to our Cowboys through thick and thin. Sooner fans have already jumped ship! I work with a few "die-hard Sooner Fans" and they bad mouth them worse than Texas! Kinda Sad! And yes, being that it has taken us a very long time to get to where we are we are excited about being 2nd in the South. And we are both without very influential players this season so dont use that as an excuse. GO POKES!!

Hey Jace, how do you "loose"? I haven't jumped ship so I wouldn't know about that. What influencial player are you without? Dez?

Go Pokes! Hey goonerman37, let's discuss the last time you won a championship, shall we? Ohhhh, that's right. Been quite a little while. I am kinda bummed to not watch OU in the national championship game, though. I really do love watching it when you play. You can always be guaranteed to watch a good ol' fashion @$$ whoopin'! And say what you want about my comment about the last time you have won and the last time we have won one. The fact is, you all still hold on to that for dear life like it happened yesterday. Guess what, it didn't. And your precious Bob Stoops has done very little (well, other than choke) in ANY Bowl game with his OWN recruits (If you'll remember, the last championship he won was someone else recruits.)

Reading the Gooner fans and aggie fans go at it on here is hysterical. 1) OSU making a BCS bowl would only further the notion the BCS is a complete and utter joke. We all know that Boise, if the finish undefeated, is the more deserving team (I didn't necessarily say better, but more deserving). 2) Why would OSU want to play in the Fiesta Bowl knowing they will get absolutely throttled by TCU (a non AQ team)...just furthering the thoughts of the majority that the BCS system is rigged and that there are plenty of non-AQs who are as good or better than most teams in a BCS conference (not all, most). You'd better stick with the Cotton Bowl and a match-up with Coach Miles (wouldn't that be a dream).

Sorry Pokes - win or lose Saturday you've never done anything at football simply because you're no good at football.....wait a sec......a tri- champion in the Big 8 in '76.......well, bust my buttons......you did do something 33 years ago.......maybe we'll see this Sunday in the Tulsa World.........OSU beats Sooners 31-17, clinches Big 12 South, Big 12, and a spot in the national title game.......hey, what the heck, LosuR, sounded good..........tee hee hee
