OSU Basketball Notebook: Not pretty

Oklahoma State coach Travis Ford, with all due respect to Prairie View A&M, said his team was very sloppy in an 80-58 victory. He said he saw it coming because the Cowboys played like they practiced.

Players had Sunday off following a Saturday victory over North Texas, which left OSU with one day to prepare for Prairie View. Ford said the first practice after a day off is never good and it was made worse because he said four or five players left early for a "music production for class."

Ford said the Cowboys will have to be better when they play Friday against Bradley in Las Vegas.

"You make a mistake against Bradley and they will make you pay for it," he said. "You make a mistake against Utah or Illinois and they will make you pay for it."

OSU will play a Saturday game in Vegas against Utah or Illinois.

New Cowboy: After the game, OSU issued a press release announcing the signing of Midland (Texas) Junior College forward Darrell Williams.

"Darrell brings us some great experience," Ford said. "He's one of the top five junior college big men in the country. You can pretty much write down a double-double every night for him. He has extreme versatility. He can really handle the ball and step out. He's very athletic and understands the game."

A 6-foot-8, 245-pound native of Chicago, Williams averaged 7.4 points and six rebounds per game last season for Chipola College in Florida.

Williams has been ranked as high as the No. 7 overall player nationally in the junior college ranks, according to Midwest Scouting Service.

Itinerary: The Cowboys will depart Wednesday for Las Vegas and will practice before and after the flight. Ford said he is all business on the road, but players might get an hour or two of spare time in Vegas. "In groups of four with a coach in each group," Ford said. "Hopefully (that will happen Wednesday) night, because (basketball) needs to be the only thing on their mind after that point."
