LAS VEGAS -- Oklahoma State’s basketball team was supposed to get tested in Las Vegas. The Cowboys passed the exam with ease.

OSU led by as many as 24 points and beat Utah 77-55 Saturday night in the championship game of the HoopTV Las Vegas Invitational at Orleans Arena. One night earlier, the Cowboys built a 20-point lead and held on for an 11-point victory over Bradley.

OSU improved to 6-0 and has won every game by a double-digit margin. Travis Ford’s team played its first four games at Gallagher-Iba Arena and the coach was curious how the Cowboys would respond away from home against better competition. But the Pokes treated Bradley and Utah just like they treated Seattle, Southern, North Texas and Prairie View A&M in home games.

James Anderson, who has scored in double figures every game this season, scored 26 points against Utah. The Utes fouled Anderson while trying to contain him and the junior guard made a career-best 13 free throws in 14 attempts.

OSU took control of the title game by scoring 17 consecutive points for a 19-7 lead in the first half. It was the Cowboys most consecutive points this season, topping the 11 in a row they scored in a Nov. 18 victory over Southern University.

Utah rallied from a 16-point halftime deficit to beat Illinois on a buzzer-beater one night earlier, but the Cowboys didn’t permit the Utes to stage another comeback. Utah dropped to 3-3.

OSU improved to 4-1 all-time against Utah. The Cowboys and Utes met for the first time since Dec. 12, 1980, when Tom Chambers scored 25 points to hand the Pokes an 89-73 defeat.

The Cowboys return to Oklahoma for a Wednesday game against the University of Tulsa at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
