Wide receiver Kenney will see playing time
He will "definitely play" versus Idaho State, coach says.

NORMAN — Once the rage of preseason camp, Oklahoma's Cameron Kenney didn't get a look at wide receiver in last week's loss to BYU.

"It's hard to play in a no-huddle offense and play at a high tempo if you've never been on the field in a game," position coach Jay Norvell said, noting Kenney is a junior college transfer adjusting to OU's offense. "We wanted to give him an extra week of practice. But he's been doing really well and working hard."

After watching his receivers struggle to catch, compete, route-run and block against BYU, Norvell is ready to give Kenney a shot Saturday against Idaho State.

"Cameron Kenney will definitely play," he said, "and play a lot."

Norvell indicated Brandon Caleb had earned more time after leading the Sooners with four catches and 57 yards last week. He also said Mossis Madu, who carried the ball once but did not play wide receiver against BYU, would get a crack on the perimeter Saturday. Madu, a tailback the past two seasons, worked mostly at receiver during camp.

As for Adron Tennell, who dropped as many passes as he caught (two) last week?

"He's got a lot of ability. We expect more out of him," Norvell said. "It was very surprising to me. Hopefully he'll play better this week. He'll get an opportunity to do that. We'll see where he goes."

Murray mending again: OU running back DeMarco Murray left last week's game briefly to get his right foot re-taped.

"He had a little bit of a toe injury," coach Bob Stoops said earlier this week. "It's nothing like he had before, not turf toe. But he came back and played and practiced (Monday)."

Murray, who is coming off hamstring surgery and a less-serious hamstring injury from the summer, redshirted in 2006 after a bout with turf toe. He carried 10 times for 58 yards against BYU. He also fumbled twice.

"I'm not going to make any excuses," Murray said this week. "I fumbled the ball. If I don't drop the ball, I'm sure we win the game. I understand that."

Fiesta fade: Before the first week of the season, most bowl projections had OU going to the Fiesta. The New York Times put the Sooners there to face TCU. CollegeFootballNews.com forecast an OU-West Virginia rematch from two years ago, while SI.com and ESPN.com predicted OU-Boise State.

Now, with Sam Bradford out and his team off to an 0-1 start, the Sooners have been slotted in the Cotton by ESPN analysts Mark Schlabach and Bruce Feldman. The team replacing OU in the Fiesta on both ESPN and SI Web sites?

Oklahoma State.

Madu ran the football against BYU but worked as WR during fall camp. Makes sense to me.

Is it 2010 yet?

One game into the season and the football gurus are placing teams in bowl games! Unbelievable. Quite a few games left for everyone before planning that bowling trip. Wouldn't buy a plane ticket just yet!

Get the ball in the playmakers hands. Broyles, Kenney, Madu, Hanna, Jaz Reynolds, Brown, Murray, Tennell let the opponents stop them all. Short pass and run baby run. Norvell let the playmakers play "don't be scared". Keep Kevin Wilson away from the game plan. Or better yet, buy him a ticket to Northwestern.

TexaSooner,

I guess Kevin Wilson had nothing to do with the game plan the last few years either. You're just another idiot who has no clue what they're talking about.

We've just got to tackle the man with the ball and everything else will work itself out.

Plywood7:Flywood7 or whatever your dumb@$$ name is,
that's exactly what I'm saying. Kevin Wilson Had "nothing" to do with the last few years. Count it up, LSU, West Virginia, Boise State, and Florida they all made that wannabe offensive coordinator look Stoop-id. Those are the games that really count. But you, with your "short yellow bus riding IQ" wouldn't know that. Go play Madden 2000 with the kids, winning Sooner football games is for the big boys.
