Junior running back Jamad Williams is as jazzed as anyone about the University of Tulsa's visit to play No. 12 Oklahoma on Saturday.

"It's very important to me that we play well because I have a lot of friends on (Oklahoma's) team," said Williams, who played high school football at Midwest City.

Sooner standout defensive tackle Gerald McCoy played at Oklahoma City Southeast, but Williams knew him through a cousin of McCoy's who played at Midwest City, and from seeing him at track meets. McCoy threw the shot put in high school and Williams was a sprinter.

Williams also stays in touch with Sooner defensive back Dominique Franks, who played at Union. Franks sent him a text message earlier this week, but Williams didn't respond.

"I won't respond this week. It's all business now," Williams said.

What did the text message say?

"He said, 'How are you doing?' and 'I hope you won't hit us over the head too hard,' " Williams said.

Making plays: Williams is off to a solid start in his third Hurricane season.

He went over 1,000 yards in career rushing in the opener at Tulane, and made two key plays in the 44-10 win at New Mexico.

Williams caused a fumbled punt that set up TU's first score, and caught his first college touchdown pass in the third quarter, scoring from 21 yards out with a screen pass from G.J. Kinne.

"The coaches caught New Mexico in (an all-out blitz) and checked into the call," Williams said. "I caught the ball and saw that nobody was out there. All I could think about was, 'Don't trip'."

Tickets available: Tickets remain for Saturday's game at OU through the TU ticket office.

Tickets are $75 and can be purchased by calling the TU athletic ticket office at 631-4688, or by stopping by the TU ticket office at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
