OU: Three Storylines

Tulsa's Bryan Burnham facemasks Landry Jones of Oklahoma during their football game. MIKE SIMONS / Tulsa World

Domination: Through three games, Oklahoma's defense has been the nation's best. OU is first nationally in points allowed (4.7 per game), first in rushing yards allowed (40.7) and ninth in total yards allowed (223.3). That kind of domination was on display against Tulsa as the Sooners limited college football's two-time total offense champion to 269 yards and recorded their first back-to-back shutouts since the Switzer era.

Landry Jones: Remember in 2007 when Sam Bradford tied the national freshman record with five TD throws? Then did it a bunch more times in 2007 and '08? Against TU, Landry Jones broke those marks with six.

Coaches say Jones wasn't nervous at the start, when he let sail a handful of high throws. Clearly he wasn't nervous when he was pitching strike after strike to Ryan Broyles, Brandon Caleb and DeMarco Murray.

Another Hurricane warning: After so easily dispatching of TU, Oklahoma's next game is Oct. 3 at Miami. The Hurricanes are now ranked No. 9 — one spot ahead of the Sooners — after beginning the season unranked. Early looks have shown OU coaches big, fast and athletic executing solid schemes. The 'Canes beat Florida State, who beat BYU, who beat OU.

Think Miami has the Sooners' attention?

uhhh.....pitching strike after strike? I don't think so. His receivers bailed him out on more than one occasion. Several passes sailed on him early, but he did settle down and have an incredible game.

Jones' is doing alright, 6 TD passes is exceeding expetations. That is comparable to another well known QB, maybe there is another Heisman on the horizon. Jones throws a good ball. Sam is still the man, hope he returns, gets the timing down, we defeat Miami, and then be totally ready for TX. Happy that Landry is getting some experience that will help him, both now, and in the future. Great young man, like the stache!

To bad they did'nt schedule a patsy for the first game, they would be undefeated. This young replacement QB looks VERY impressive. Glad he's getting a chance to show his stuff...
