Be tough

Kansas State's strength is rushing the football, and it does it in a physical, punishing way. Oklahoma has had recent success defensively against finesse teams like Baylor, Texas and Kansas. The Sooners know they're going to have to change their philosophy and stand their ground this week.

Catch the ball

With K-State trying to control the clock and slow the game down offensively, the Sooners will have fewer opportunities to make plays. That means when Landry Jones hits a receiver in stride, that receiver must hang on to the football. It also means if the OU defenders get their hands on a ball, they have to catch it.

Ground game

Oklahoma can turn this thing into a route if the Sooner offense does one thing: run the football. The ongoing construction on the offensive line can no longer be a hindrance. The second half against Kansas was encouraging, but this team needs to continue improving against a good defense. DeMarco Murray's return should help.

OU gameday tips

Bring a jacket: Temperatures will be in the 50s, with no threat of wind or rain.

Bring your costume: Fans may dress up for Halloween, but don’t bring any props. No hand-held accessories will be allowed inside the stadium.

Bring the kids: The Sooner Fan Fest on the infield of John Jacobs Track will include trick-or-treat opportunities. Homeland will distribute clear plastic bags for the candy, and while they will be allowed inside
the stadium, no other bags of candy will be.

Bring a sharpie: Members of the OU baseball and women’s basketball teams will be signing autographs before the game.

Bring your appetite: The Billy Sims BBQ rib-Eating Championship is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. outside the stadium. Eater X, who holds professional eating records for tamales, sushi, noodles and cannoli, is the favorite.
