NORMAN — Oklahoma reportedly has received verbal commitments from a couple of Southmoore stars, according to Web site SoonerScoop.com.

Quarterback Kendal Thompson, son of former Sooner wishbone quarterback Charles Thompson, is reported to have offered his verbal pledge Tuesday evening, and tight end Austin Haywood followed.

Thompson, a junior, is a commitment for the Class of 2011, while Haywood can sign a binding letter of intent in February. Haywood is the Sooners' 25th verbal commitment of the '10 class, while Thompson is the second for '11.

SoonerScoop.com quoted Thompson as saying, "Coach (Bob) Stoops said, 'We feel like you're the best quarterback we've seen come out in a long time.' He thinks I'm the guy that fits for them and I'm right in their backyard."

My son played some baseball and basketball against Kendal several years ago and if he's as good at football as he was at those sports he should do very well. Different build than daddy. I'm guessing not quite as fast but better arm. Congrats to him.
