The Bob Stoops-Bo Pelini relationship took a backseat to the Oklahoma-Nebraska game this year. It was a stark contrast to last year, when all anyone wanted to talk/write about was the first meeting between the old Youngstown, Ohio, chums.

Not to say that the storyline was completely ignored.

Asked about the annual summertime reunion/bocce fundraiser in Youngstown, Stoops said: "It's really neat. Bo's there and Carl (Pelini, Bo's brother and Nebraska's defensive coordinator) when he's able to be in. My brothers, Mike and Mark, myself. My other brother, Ron, is the D-coordinator there at Mooney (High School). He kind of orchestrates it all.

"Bernie Kosar will swing by or Jim Tressel sometimes is able to come by, Mark Mangino. It's really quite amazing. Kirk Herbstreit usually comes in from Columbus. We have a heck of a time. We're all such good friends that it works really well.

"Only in Youngstown can you get 500 people for a bocce fundraiser."

Asked how many Youngstown natives will be in Lincoln Saturday, Carl Pelini said: "Most of the city."

Support system: The last time the Sooners played at Nebraska, they didn't ask a whole lot of their redshirt freshman quarterback. Rhett Bomar was 14-of-28 passing for 157 yards.

OU won nonetheless because it rushed for 180 yards, including 146 (and two touchdowns) from Adrian Peterson.

Now, Landry Jones is the redshirt freshman quarterback about to dip his toe in the Sea of Red. He won't have Peterson
to help, but at least running backs Chris Brown and DeMarco Murray are coming off one of their most productive efforts of the season.

Running hard in his first appearance in two weeks, Murray gained 62 yards. Brown's season-high of 83 included a 44-yarder, the second-longest run by a Sooner this year.

Husker health: Nebraska will also want to take some of the load off a freshman quarterback. Cody Green was 12-of-21 for 128 yards in his first start at Baylor last week. Now he steps up in class against an OU defense ranked No. 11 nationally.

Leading rusher Roy Helu has only carried 12 times over the past two games because of a shoulder injury. Freshman Rex Burkhead showed promise until a foot injury sidelined him three weeks ago.
