Tulsa's Damaris Johnson was voted Conference USA's preseason special teams player of the year by the league's coaches, it was announced on Tuesday.

Johnson, a freshman All-American last season, was a potent kick returner for the Golden Hurricane last season, setting a school record with 1,319 return yards. He set a single-game record with 211 kickoff return yards against UTEP last season, including a 94-yard touchdown return.

Houston quarterback Case Keenum was tabbed the C-USA preseason offensive player of the year, and East Carolina defensive lineman C.J. Wilson was picked as the preseason defensive player of the year by the 12 coaches.

Tulsa landed four players on the preseason all-conference team — seniors Mike Bryan (LB), James Lockett (DB) and sophomores Tyler Holmes (OL) and Johnson (KR).

East Carolina and Southern Miss had the most overall preseason selections with five players voted onto the all-CUSA preseason team. Tulsa and Houston had four each.

The league announced earlier this summer that it will not have a preseason coaches poll.
