Stewart took the lead on turn two of lap 26 to earn the $3,000 payout.
KELLYVILLE -- Darren Stewart of Bixby held off perennial champion Gary Wright of Hooks, Texas, to win the American Sprint Cars on Tour Speed Week main event Monday night at Creek County Speedway.
Stewart took the lead away from Sean McClelland in turn two of lap 26 of the 30-lap event when lapped traffic trapped the Collinsville driver.
Wright passed McClelland for second in turn four of lap 27, but could never catch Stewart and the $3,000 winner's check.
McClelland finished third in the feature with Jason Johnson of Eunice, La., passing Jamie Passmore fourth on lap 20.
Passmore crossed fifth.
Wright started third row outside and was searching for his second main event in two tries during the 15th annual ASCoT Speed Week. Wright swept the feature Saturday night at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.
A capacity crowd of more than 1,200 watched a flip-filled feature with Wright, the season points leader working on his fourth straight championship, hoping to win for the 116th time in his ASCS career.
Stewart would have none of it.
Cody Gardner led wire-to-wire to win the first 12-lap B feature.
There was no change in the top five with Kyle Bellm finishing three lengths behind Gardner in second, Forest Sutherland third, Foster Landon fourth and Roy Larkin fifth.
John Hunt drove off the outside pole and paced the second 12-lap B feature all the way.
Cody Branchcomb closed on Hunt, but could not flag him down.
Shelly Ward ran third and Travis Jenkins fourth the entire distance with Matt Covington passing Claud Estes for fifth on lap 10.
Scott Sawyer passed Zach Alley down the back straightaway of the first lap and cruised to victory in the 25-circuit ASCS II 600cc multis feature.
Alley chased Sawyer in the runnerup spot flag to flag with Ryan Duke third all the way.
Chris Berreth inherited fourth when Steven Shebester spun on lap 18.
Trey Marcham passed Kirby Bedford for fifth on the restart.
Speed Week goes to the Devil's Bowl in Mesquite, Texas, on Thursday night, then to State Fair Speedway in Oklahoma City on Friday night and Lawton Speedway on Saturday.
