The Hornets defeat Memorial to capture the cup.

Booker T. Washington took home the girls championship Charger Cup by defeating the injury-depleted Memorial Chargers 3-0 at LaFortune Stadium Saturday.

The Hornets reached the championship with wins over Mannford on Thursday and Sand Springs on Friday.

Memorial had seven players out due to injury.

Washington (5-3) controlled the ball throughout, as the Chargers (5-3) had just two shots on goal, both in the first half. The Hornets, meanwhile, had 24 shots.

Memorial's keeper, Sabrina Hale finished with 17 saves.

Claire Cornett opened the scoring 9:19 into the game with a kick into the far corner of the net off of a corner kick.

Southern Methodist University signee Carlin Gibbs followed that with a tap-in out of a scrum in front of the goal at the 6:25 mark of the first period.

Annie Greene closed out the scoring with a strong strike to Hale's left side with 5:50 left in the game.

Washington coach Ashley Johnson said that her team played with purpose Saturday.

"I think that the girls really wanted this game," Johnson said. "The last two years we've played Memorial very tight and they've come out with the wins. I think that we were really ready to play them this year. We wanted it and we got it."
