Southern Illinois basketball coach says he met with OSU but isn't a candidate

The coach who ended Oklahoma State’s basketball season will apparently not be the Cowboys’ next head coach.

Southern Illinois beat OSU in a first-round NIT game and, on Tuesday, the Champaign (Ill.) News-Gazette reported on its Web site that SIU coach Chris Lowery is no longer among candidates to replace Sean Sutton.

The newspaper reported that OSU officials had discussions with Lowery at his home in Carbondale, Ill.

Afterward, Lowery said, “I’m very happy at Southern Illinois. I have a long-term deal and a terrific recruiting class coming in.”

Lowery declined to discuss details of his talks with OSU, according to the newspaper.

I realize Sean may not have been the future but come on folks he had the OSU basketball program headed in a better direction than Gundy ever will the football team. Holder is a great golf coach but a joke as an AD, now he's got SIU's coach turning him down, SOUTHERN ILLINOIS" COACH TURNED YOU DOWN. OK i had to make a point, it's a joke what's transpiring in Stillwater.

Southern Illinois has been better this decade than 3/4 of the Big 12 teams. Why would Lowery want to go coach a team that's not nearly as good as his current team?

Maybe it was just one of my dreams, but was OSU not in the Final Four just four years ago?
I mean sure, they have had some not so great years the past three years, but come on, some of you are acting like OSU is like the University of Montana or something. OSU is still a great basketball school with great facilities.

i know holder wanted to take his time, but it's been two weeks. i guess a week was wasted on self though. does it usually take this long to announce a new coach? i look at espn and fox sports daily on the web and it seems there's an update on other coaches changing schools or getting extensions at their current schools. have we missed the boat?

Geno Davis leaves Drake and took a job at Providence. Did OSU even talk to him? Wouldn't he want to coach in the Big 12? Someone is asleep at the wheel in Stilwater.

OSU is not going to get a top name coach. No one wants to be owned by T-Boone. The Pokes will have to settle for a second-tier coach who will put up with Pickens B.S.

Most of you posted these same comments on the newsok forum. That's funny. Copy and paste, for sure.

Anyways, Rivals dot com reported that Holder has had or has scheduled 4 interviews with various coaches the past few days. Chill out guys. He keeps everything under wraps.

It appears that Holder/Pickens fired a better coach than they can Hire. You have to have something to have something under wraps. Any good coach will not put up with the paid and unpaid Athlectic Directors at OSU. Boone ownes and runs OSU or will it soon be known as BPU. (Boone Pickens Unversity)!

MY FAMILY and MY SON'S family will no longer support OSU basketball or football. HOLDER and BOONE PICKENS really messed up.

My daughter, (not a OSU alumni, graduate of out of state BIG TWELVE school) being a Neurosurgeon contributed big bucks.

No Pickens amount, I am sure...Sean and Sutton are gone.......SO ARE OUR CONTRIBUTIONS.....

I HOPE HOLDER HAS TROUBLE FINDING A DECENT COACH...........
