Sooners get commitment for '09

Oklahoma on Wednesday received its 14th verbal commitment for the 2009 recruiting class when Josh Aladenoye, a 6-foot-6, 320-pound offensive lineman from North Mesquite (Texas) High School pledged.

According to Scout.com, Aladenoye is rated a three-star prospect and is the 30th-best offensive tackle prospect in the nation.

Aladenoye's is OU's second commitment from an offensive lineman in as many days — and second of the recruiting season by a lineman. On Tuesday, the Sooners unofficially received a commitment from Tyler Evans, a 6-6, 300-pounder from Strafford, Mo. Evans said he would inform coach Bob Stoops of his decision by the end of the week.

Both Evans and Aladenoye attended OU's football camp last weekend. Scout.com rates Evans, a projected guard, as a one-star prospect.

Evans said he chose OU over Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Iowa and Arkansas.

"Each school had good academics, but Oklahoma's was a little bit higher," Evans said. "And their football program is one of the nation's best."

The team at Strafford, a small town in southwestern Missouri, finished 4-6 last season.

"It'll be nice (to play at OU) after being on the bottom of the totem pole in high school," Evans said.By John E. Hoover, World sports writer Eric Bailey contributed to this report.

How refreshing that someone accepting an athletic scholarship would state academics as a deciding factor! Sounds like Josh has a good head on his shoulders.
