Boy fractures skull after hit by ball at Cubs game: Doctors and family say a 7-year-old boy who fractured his skull when he was struck by a foul ball at Wrigley Field is recovering and expected to live.

Dominic DiAngi of suburban Frankfort was sitting behind the Cubs dugout Thursday afternoon during a game between the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds when a foul ball off the bat of Cubs pitcher Ted Lilly struck him in the head.

On Friday, the boy was in serious condition. Children's Memorial Hospital spokeswoman Julie Pesch says the boy regained consciousness on Friday and doctors said he was steadily improving throughout the day.

The game was the first major league game the boy had ever attended.

Dodgers out of Vero Beach: The Los Angeles Dodgers made their departure from Vero Beach official, terminating their facility use agreement.

After calling Vero Beach their spring home for 61 years dating to when they were the Brooklyn Dodgers, they informed Indian River County, Fla., officials that they were exercising their option to terminate the agreement in anticipation of opening a $100 million, two-team facility in Glendale, Ariz.

Craig Callan, the Dodgers' vice president of spring training and minor league facilities, notified Indian River County administrator Joe Baird and Vero Beach City Manager Jim Gabbard of the decision Thursday evening.

"I guess there's no particular place in the world — including my home — that holds more memories for me than Dodgertown," Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully said Friday in the Dodger Stadium press box that bears his name. "I've been going there for 59 years...But nothing is forever, and it was time. I mean, that was hallowed ground for the Brooklyn Dodgers. But it should be closer to Los Angeles, so I'm all for it. "

Nationals' Bowden refutes ESPN.com story: Washington Nationals general manager Jim Bowden denied an ESPN.com report Friday that he and special assistant Jose Rijo are being investigated in connection with a scandal involving bonus money for prospects from the Dominican Republic.

"There's no wrongdoing," Bowden said during the Nationals' game against the Houston Astros. ESPN reported Bowden, who has been the Nationals' GM since 2004 and previously worked in the same capacity in Cincinnati from 1992-2003, and Rijo were being investigated in a probe examining an alleged scam involving the skimming of signing bonuses for young Dominican players.

Orioles scout fired as part of gambling probe: The Baltimore Orioles fired a high-ranking scout after MLB's new investigative unit linked him to a gambling probe.

MLB was asked for assistance in the gambling inquiry about six months ago by New York police. The fired scout, Alan Marr, was national cross-checker for the Orioles and the top person listed in the team's scouting directory.
