From The Picker's Blog:
"How Did Warden Stoops Do on This One?"
From Friday's Tulsa World:
Sooner raps about guns
After meeting with coach Bob Stoops on Friday morning, freshman Josh Jarboe has been dismissed from the University of Oklahoma football team.
The university announced the decision in a press release this afternoon.
"We are disappointed in this outcome, but our complete review and this final decision is in the best interest of our program" OU coach Bob Stoops said in the press release "We outlined for Josh the expectations we had for him when he arrived and, unfortunately, those expectations have not been met. Josh needs to learn from this experience. We hope he can move forward in a positive manner."
Jarboe, a highly recruited receiver from Georgia, signed with OU in February. In May, he was sentenced to two years probation for a bringing a gun to his high school. This week, Jarboe was the subject of a 74-second
video in which he's seen rapping. His obscenity-laced rap included references to guns and shooting people.
Jarboe attended Cedar Grove (Ga.) High School. In March, an assistant principal at the school caught him in possession of a pistol in the school parking lot.
Jarboe was initially charged with a felony, but his crime was reduced to a misdemeanor. He was sentenced to two years probation and 80 hours of community service.

Coach Switzer would've started him. Ahhhh, the good ol' days of rape and gun play in the athletic dorm!

We wasted a lot of resources on this kid...too bad he decided to waste his potential in such an asininefashion. That is a hard life lesson to learn.

Stoops was actually probably relieved that he and the Sooners got of lightly with Jarboe's next stunt. I'm sure he is thinking this isn't that bad of a problem to fix. If we give him another chance the this kid could possibly do something catastrophic. It was just a matter of time!

Stoops has given several players a second chance, and many of those took advantage of said chance and now represent well. Too bad for Jarboe, good for Stoops

Rap is illegal I guess? I’m thinking Jarboe had a meeting with Stoops, didn’t realize Stoops means business and Stoops cut him. OU isn’t going to deny someone a scholly over words. Especially not when there are 14 lawyers for every human on Earth. Lest I forget, how stupid are you OU haters? Yeah OU was the only school that recruited Jarboe. Flush out your headgear twits!!

The fact that we aren't hearing a story about this player being sacked from the team means Stoops is no better than Switzer
How does that crow taste, yirmin?

Ken, in the public eye this is unacceptable. I agree it was dumb at most. and it was NOT that bad.. But again, the state of oklahoma, you and I, are paying for his school. When you are someone that represents the people, in an organization like OU, then you are held more accountable for your actions then a person not in the public eye. He was given a chance on a condition of not bringing any negative attention to the University of Oklahoma. He failed thus he pays the price.

Ken, Stoops already went out on a limb for the kid by honoring his scholarship after the gun charge, if not for this, the rap would not be a big deal. It is the misuse of Stoops' trust that caused Jarboe to get the boot. While not always fair, Oklahoma football players are representatives of the coaching staff, the school, and to a larger extent the entire state. The coaches tell the players this, and they expect them to behave in an above average manner because they know the whole country is going to judge everything they do. It is not fair, but it is just reality.

Stoops did what he felt was the right thing to do. I don't blame him a bit for offering the kid a scholarship to play ball, and thus a "second chance" to overcome his initial misdoings. Yes, he is an 18 year old kid and we all did stupid things when we were that age. But the University of Oklahoma is paying good money (in the form of a scholarship) for him to play football and represent their school. They don't need someone casting the program in a bad light before he even hits campus.

sorry, Ken, you might condone the promoting of murder, but I don't and I'm glad to see OU and Stoops doesn't either.

So long Jarboe, maybe you can go to OSU, they will let you play until you are convicted of a crime. OU is just being proactive and sending you packing before they have to deal with crap, and they will avoid attention from the NCAA.

I'm pretty sure that if some of the parents that post here that if they listened to their kids ipods and cd's they will find the same type music.
Gangsta rap is largest selling genre of music among teenagers today.

Surprise! A typical OU recruit! What about the scum bag who stole a jacket in Phoenix? Of course in typical OU fashion, he still has his scholarship along with the dude who stole gasoline!! Why not dismiss all the thugs from OU's team, but then they wouldn't have enough players to field a team? An embarassment to the state is OU(Outlaw U>)

Good move, he needed to go. Jarboe hasn't changed his behavior. He still looks, thinks, and acts like a gangsta. Sign up and go to Baghdad, then you can get all the gun play you want. I doubt if you are tough enough to walk those streets with your rap crap.

I would lay 10 to 1 odds that this punk is either in prison or dead within 2 years. What a blown opportunity, looks like nothing but poor choices. Bob made the right call on this one, however he should never have set foot on Owen Field to begin with. He can go back to his favored gangsta lifestyle and the sewage it promotes.
