>>>CORRECTION<<<:
The Picker picks Cleveland over Pittsburgh (-6). The Arkansas at Texas game has been postponed, therefore there is no pick for that this week. The contest will be played with 15 games instead of 16.
Here is what the Picker had to say about the Cleveland game: Steelers (-6) at Cleveland – Blue collar special, blue being the color of work clothes, bruises, and the stars seen after collisions. Steelers by 4.
These are some things we'd like to hear but probably won't.
"The media is all mine." Bob Stoops.
"I simply cannot believe that we didn't lead last Friday night's high school sports report with the huge Broken Arrow upset over Union." John Holcomb, OSU hired hand and KOTV sports director.
"Tony is like my day job." Jessica Simpson.
"We're going to kick OU's backside." TU hoops coach Wojcik.
"The thought of OU makes my teeth chatter." Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel.
"Of course I know where all the national TV cameras are." USC coach Pete Carroll.
"We couldn't stop me." OSU's Mike Gundy.
"Our schedule is a beautiful serving of mush." TU grid coach Graham.
"Sufferin' succotash." Lou Holtz.
"Our logo makes me a little queasy." Thunder man Clay Bennett.
"Don't bet against us." Florida coach Urban Meyer, after kicking a late field goal to cover against Miami last week.
"I couldn't pick the replay." ESPN horse race expert Hank Goldberg.
"I quit." Keith Olbermann.
"Hey, I don't recruit any bank robbers." Penn State coach JoePa.
"I was nuts to leave TU." Louisville coach Kragthorpe.
"I was nuts to leave TU." Keith Burns.
"I was nuts to leave TU." Steve Robinson.
"I was nuts to leave TU." Buzz Peterson.
"Last year I wrote that the spread offense would revolutionize college football. Last week I wrote that the NFL players had grown too big and fast and strong and that injuries would dominate the league. When are you bums going to get your end off the ground?" World Picker.
THE PICKS
Friday
Kansas at South Florida (-3):
Not exactly the kind of scheduling that made KU infamous and famous. KU no longer tiptoes into town unnoticed.
SF by 4.
Saturday
OU (-20) at Washington:
Many fascinating story lines apply.
1. OU plays like the Griswold family on the road, quarterback included.
2. Pac-10 officials are such a part of the show — a bad part —they should be introduced and come out of a tunnel, same as the players.
3. Wash coach Willingham is a nice guy who looks great and sounds great and does everything except win games.
4. The Wash quarterback is a fantastic athlete who is a classic example of what happens to a college signal-caller who runs too much in this day and age of ferocious linebackers and safeties: You get obliterated.
Could be a little tougher than expected, as a nation feels sorry for a Wash team that also lost to Oregon by about 100.
OU by 17.
Georgia (-7) at South Carolina:
The modern passing game has gone by both of these.
Spurrier stops just short of coaching with a golf club in hand on the sideline.
Georgia by 4.
Wisconsin (-1 1/2) at Fresno State:
The Big Ten is on the verge of dropping off the football map a little earlier than usual.
After this weekend, JoePa could be the liveliest thing in the league.
Fresno by 9.
Michigan at Notre Dame (-1):
Don't adjust your set, they're both really that slow.
Should be in black and white, the offenses are that outdated.
Michigan by 4.
Iowa State at Iowa (-12 1/2):
The Iowa coach has the best reputation possible for somebody who has never done a thing.
Iowa by 10.
Stanford at TCU (-12):
TCU has very quietly gone unnoticed.
TCU by 10.
Ohio State at USC (-10):
Ohio State mirrors OU of late, great conference success, is a stinker in the national games.
The ESPN hambones have gotten a little carried away with USC, which has only beaten a lousy Virginia team. Winner catapults to national champ game.
USC by 13.
SUNDAY
New Orleans (-1) at Washington:
A Senate subcommittee could be called to investigate the hometown offense.
Wash by 3.
Raiders at KC (-2 1/2):
Al Davis spending a weekend at Bernies?
KC by 7.
Indy (-2 1/2) at Minnesota:
The Minnie quarterback has an arm like a leg.
Minnie by 1.
The Bears at Carolina (- 6 1/2):
The Bears are the last remnants, college or pro, of the defense-wins-games oldie.
Carolina by 3.
New England at the Jets (-3):
Suddenly the guy dressed like a hobo doesn't look so smart.
Jets by 6.
MONDAY
Eagles at Dallas (-9):
Few could recognize the Cowboy punter. In some seriousness, quarterback Romeo tends to peak a little early, say, 3 1/2 months early.
Hiding the miniatures in the secondary remains the key on defense.
Dallas by 10.

Let me answer that one for the picker - you see, Texas has trouble with the wind. And with the hurricane expected to hit in Texas, we decided that the wind would affect the outcome of the game - so we decided not to include Texas in this week's picks.

Keith Burns didn't really leave, per se. He was fired for being a lousy head coach.

Snicker is right! Depth and 2md stringers make or break your season in the NFL. Sort of like the concern if Zac Robinson or Sam Bradford gets knocked out!
Keith Burns comment classic! I don’t know though, San Jose has got the ocean, the mountains, & those Calf. Girls. Somehow football and computer geeks go together like Jessica Simpson and Republican VP Nominee Sarah Palin.
TCU/OU game could be a dandy!
Anyone remember when OSU was “known” for its intense Defense?
Anyone remember the last time Bob Stoops smiled?
Anyone remember the last time a NBA game was exciting? (Good luck Wonder Thunder’s)
Anyone remember baseball?
Do Todd Graham & Mike Gundy use the same barber?

OK, I will comment on Notre Dame and Michigan because no one in the country is except for the Picker. He is dead on about them being slow. Anyone who watched Notre Dame play Strawberry Shortcake State last weekend saw that the grass at Notre Dame stadium is longer than US Open rough...generally equalizes the lack of speed on defense for teams. I do think Michigan is faster but playing in a wheat field as they will this weekend...you never know. Michigan looks like it might have promise once they get the right combo of athletes on the field in the new coach's system. Notre Dame just is awful outright. I bet NBC is wishing they spent their $100M on a few more horse races. Picker...what would be your line of Notre Dame vs. Tulsa on a neutral turf field...TU (-10) is my bet...run and throw all over the place.

This is the third year in a row that the Picker has used the joke "(some QB) has an arm like a leg." Get some new material, you hack.

I am pretty sure Steve Robinson is happy at North Carolina as an asst coach with a national championship ring

The Arkansas at Texas game was postponed late last night, which is why the pick is not there. We are working to see what we can do to adjust the contest.
The Pittsburgh at Cleveland game was omitted by mistake. The Picker has picked Cleveland. There was be a correction added to the Sports section in Friday's paper.

What about my Purdue Boilermakers??? Just who is this picker?? Notre Dame. What the heck? Come on...why do you guys even have them in there. Michigan will eat them up and spit them out like they serve this BBQ beef down here. Please...
Jason, I know you have many identities. Who knows maybe you are the picker or the TW Chicken King!! :-D LOL
PS Just who made me the Business anaylsis queen??? You guys really need to hire a business writer!! I'm kicking out your readers a lot of stuff for FREE! Not that I don't mind it but in with all this economic mess...lots of the folks want it spell out to them in plain english. Jounalism 101 Rule #1: Write the article on a 6th grade level remember.
I never wrote business articles just warm and fuzzy stuff for the public viewing. Education is Economics but that is as far as it gets.

Hate to break it to you, Bluebird, but Notre Dame already beat Michigan 35-17 Saturday before last. Last Saturday, Michigan State beat Notre Dame 23-7, but the Irish are still 2-1 for the season. Personally, I'd like to see Purdue whip them but we'll have to wait and find out on the field. After all, Purdue really should have beaten Oregon, but they blew the lead and lost.

"Bluebird this is the present speaking, are you reading us?" Alcohol? Gender? IQ? These are the questions we ponder.
