OWASSO — For the second time this season Owasso left-hander Austin Kirk has thrown a no-hitter — both coming at the expense of Jenks.

Kirk struck out 13 of the 17 hitters he faced Wednesday as the Class 6A top-ranked Rams rolled over No. 15 Jenks 11-0 in regional baseball action at Stigall Field.

The two-time defending state champion Rams (29-3) are one win away from heading back to the state tournament. They will play the winner of the Ponca City-Jenks game at 4 p.m. and with a win earn the opportunity to defend back-to-back championships.

"Austin was really good tonight," Owasso coach Larry Turner said. "His breaking ball was awesome. He was a little overpowering."

Kirk improved to 6-1 on the season and brought his season total to 86 strikeouts in 47 2/3 innings.

"Everything was working for me today," Kirk said. "It was the same the last time I faced them. But today, my curve was working a little more for me than the last game. That was a big plus. My defense was good behind me. Without them, I wouldn't have done what I did."

Ryan Wilson broke up the no-hitter by Trojan starter Logan Taylor in the third with his first home run of the season. That opened the flood gates, so to speak.

"He threw an inside which is where I like it," Wilson said. "I think it was out of here before I got to first. It started a mess (scoring-wise)."

Four of the Rams' five hits came in the third as Owasso put six on the scoreboard.

"Ryan got all over that one," Turner said of his left-fielder's home run. "That got us going. We're sitting right where we hoped we would be."

The Rams scored four unearned runs in the second, three on a fielding error by Jenks right fielder Brad Fisher. Fisher raced in on the short pop up from Kirk as second baseman Graham McIntyre drifted back.

Jenks got runners aboard in the second and third innings on a Brad Fisher passed ball strikeout and a strikeout throwing error by Owasso freshman Corey Sole in the third that allowed Zach Etier to reach first.
