KELLYVILLE — American Sprint Cars on Tour points leader Jason Johnson of Eunice, La., started on the pole and never looked back Monday night, driving to a solid victory in the Toyota Tundra Sizzlin' Summer Speedweek main event at Creek County Speedway.
A full house of 1,569 watched Johnson cover 30 laps with no slip ups in cashing a $3,000 payday. Tim Crawley of Little Rock, Ark., passed Nick Smith of Broken Arrow for second on lap 18. Wayne Johnson of Oklahoma City finished third after passing Smith out of turn two on lap 27. Zach Chappell of Talala grabbed fifth.
Gary Wright of Hooks, Texas, a six-time Speedweek champion, had magneto problems in his race, dropped out of the B feature and received a provisional start in the main, only to exit early.
Chappell started on the pole and led flag to flag in winning the 10-lap sprint car B feature. Koby Barksdale chased Chappell in second the entire route, but could not reel him in. Kyle Bellm moved to third when Sherman Davis fell out on lap nine. Matt Covington passed J.J. Hinkle for fourth on the lap nine restart.
David Young of Ochelata drove off the pole to apparently win his first super stocks A feature of the year. Jerry Wagner, making just his second start at the track this season along with Young, crossed a close second. However, both Young and Wagner later were disqualified for running with illegal carburetors.
Butch Baxter of Bartlesville passed Nathan Campbell for third on a lap 18 restart, and inherited the victory following
the disqualifications. Campbell took second with Eric Hill of Beggs third. Trent McBride moved into the points lead ahead of Tommy Romine.
Donnie Ray Crawford passed underneath Chris Andrews in turn two of lap 18 to win the 25-lap outlaw mini-stocks main.
Andrews led the first 17 laps and was pursuing Crawford to the wire before spinning out on lap 24. Steven Shebester moved up to take the runner-up spot with Scott Sawyer third, Jason Lair fourth and Frank Flud fifth.
Jason Dent jumped into the lead from the outside pole and led all 10 laps to win the outlaws mini-stocks B feature. Joe Dent, Jason's brother, ran second all the way and finished half a straightaway behind. Harlan Hulsey possessed the third spot wire to wire with Rhett Miller passing Chris Cochram for fourth on a lap seven restart.
