Sam Miller was the only student-athlete participating in the Tulsa Public Schools' National Signing Day ceremony whose signing was determining where he would spend the next decade, not just the next two-to-five years.

Miller, a center-mid, is heading for the U.S. Naval Academy. He looked at several colleges before committing in December to play soccer at Navy.

"I went there on a summer seminar program and fell in love with the place," Miller said. "Once I got my acceptance, that's where I wanted to go.

"It definitely is a commitment. Afterwards I've got to be in the Navy for about seven years. It's a commitment for the long haul."

Miller was not at full speed physically for the ceremony. He has a stress fracture in his right foot.

"I got it playing some football with friends at Thanksgiving," Miller said. "It should be fine in about a month."
