LB Ryan Reynolds

Reynolds had a productive spring transitioning to middle linebacker despite losing a handful of practices due to a sprained ankle. Replacing Curtis Lofton is no easy task, but Reynolds looked sure throughout and finished strong in the Red/White Game. Reynolds already has starting experience at outside linebacker, so he just needs to get used to the more physical demands of the middle. That'll be tricky, because Reynolds has had a long list of injuries.

LB Keenan Clayton

Bob Stoops said he might be ideal. Brent Venables said he's a "big Keenan Clayton fan." As more offenses go no-huddle and spread, Clayton's 220 pounds makes him physical enough to remain on the field for running downs, and his 4.5 speed means he's fast enough to stay in for passing downs. He's a strongside linebacker who also doubles as a nickel defensive back, which is rare. And, in scrimmages, Clayton showed superb ball instincts.

WR Quentin Chaney

OU needs to replace Malcolm Kelly, who stood out on third downs and on deep balls. Going into the spring, Chaney coming off a big Fiesta Bowl looked like the answer. But Chaney didn't have a strong showing in the scrimmages, dropping too many balls and not coming down with others. WR coach Jay Norvell said he wants better consistency out of Chaney, and said the return of Adron Tennell in the fall will bring competition.
