Patrick Collins 1985 OU football
Still sharing his athletic talents
Then:
Collins was a speedy halfback on the University of Oklahoma's 1985 national championship team. He ran for 1,369 career yards while splitting carries with wishbone operatives like Anthony Stafford, Spencer Tillman, Lydell Carr, Steve Sewell and Jamelle Holieway. "You don't mind sharing with greatness," Collins said.
Now:
Collins was the 200th pick in the 1988 NFL Draft. He spent a year and a half with the Packers, then put his college degree to good use and began working in the beer business.
Collins was an employee of Miller Brewing for almost eight years, then became vice president of sales at Chicago Beverage Systems. He recently accepted a new job that will require a move to Charleston, S.C. He will be president of a distributorship.
Collins, 42, said he has two beautiful kids, including a son who will be a high school junior and a daughter who will be a sophomore. The move to South Carolina will make high school coaches in Charleston happy and high school coaches in Chicago sad. Why? Collins' daughter started for the varsity basketball team as a freshman last year and ran track. Collins' son is a defensive end who, at 200 pounds already, will be bigger than dad. Collins said he weighed "165 wet" when he graduated from Booker T. Washington in Tulsa.
Regarding his children and the move to South Carolina, Collins said, "They are still going to turn out to be Big 12 kids and not SEC kids."By Jimmie Tramel, World sports writer
