Sooner is named preseason defensive player of the year.

Oklahoma end Auston English has been designated the Big 12's preseason defensive player of the year, while Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel is the preseason offensive player of the year.

Results of the Big 12 media poll were released on Thursday.

As a sophomore last season, English was an all-conference first-team selection despite missing three games because of a foot injury.

English led the Big 12 in sacks with 9.5.

English is one of six Sooners included on the league's preseason honor roll. The others are safety Nic Harris, running back DeMarco Murray and offensive linemen Duke Robinson, Phil Loadholt and Jon Cooper.

Seven Missouri Tigers are on the list, including Daniel (a Heisman Trophy finalist last season) and sophomore wide receiver Jeremy Maclin.

Two schools Oklahoma State and Iowa State are not represented on the All-Big 12 preseason roster.

Among the 27 players included on the preseason list, Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree is the only unanimous selection. Last season, he set NCAA freshman records for receptions (134), receiving yards (1,962) and receiving touchdowns (22). Crabtree led the nation in each of those statistical categories and captured the Biletnikoff Award.

Voted the preseason newcomer of the year is Colorado's Darrell Scott, a freshman running back. As a high school senior in Ventura, Calif., Scott rushed for more than 2,400 yards.

Oklahoma opens the season at 6 p.m. on Aug. 30 at home against Tennessee-Chattanooga.

Oklahoma State starts the year at 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 30 against Washington State in Seattle.
